About the Project

As one of the largest governmental agencies, the DC Department of General Services (DGS) manages the District’s real estate portfolio, and has a mission to build, maintain, and sustain these properties across all eight wards.

The new DGS headquarters is near completion in Ward 7; relocating to East of the Anacostia River is part of a broader strategy to generate economic prosperity in this area and bring the government closer to the people.

Informed by the rich history of the neighborhoods East of the River, and the proactive movement for creating economic opportunities in Wards 7 and 8, FORMA by MOYA developed an extensive public art plan and immersive environmental graphics and signage that honors the complexity and depth of the project.

FORMA created different concept designs and a curated art package for each of the six levels in the building, themes that embodied the vibrancy of the District. Concept designs include Art & Music on the main level that honors musicians like Duke Ellington and literary greats such as Frederick Douglass to the “Celebrate & Advocate” penthouse level that celebrates the diversity of Washington DC, and its long tradition of social movement.

Designer Insights

We created a comprehensive art plan for each floor, detailing specific locations, mediums for the artwork, explanatory plans, wireframe renderings, and space elevations to provide artists with all the necessary information in one document.

About the Project

Housing Alexandria is a non-profit community developer based in Alexandria, VA, with a mission of creating and preserving quality affordable housing and community spaces that empower residents of Alexandria.

One of their current projects will bring 475 units of affordable housing to Arlandria-Chirilagua, a diverse community with strong Central American roots. The client required a comprehensive brand and design strategy for this vital community project.

The first challenge was to create the brand identity for this development. The Creative team completed extensive research of the neighborhood of Arlandria-Chirilagua to learn about its rich history. Based on this information, We crafted a brand identity that would keep the new development connected to its Central American heritage.

The final names of the buildings is Sansé & Naja: both names come from Nahuat, a native Salvadorian language. The names signify a contrast yet union of two different concepts: Sansé symbolizes the community coming together as a whole, while Naja represents the strong identities and individuals that comprise the neighborhood.

With the brand identity finalized, we continue to build on the design strategy plan, including website design, wayfinding and signage, collateral material design, and a film documentary.

Sansé + Naja’s branding won two silver MUSE awards in 2023 in the categories of corporate brand identity and corporate identity – logos.

About the Project

DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) is a private non-profit organization that provides capital improvements, resources, and research to enhance the downtown experience of the District for all.

One of the BID’s goals is creating a parks masterplan that will meet the needs of the DowntownDC community, now and for generations to come. MOYA Creative worked alongside the MOYA Design team, architecture firm LandDesign, and the BID on an extensive report that outlined the community-led vision for parks and open spaces in downtown DC.

We led the editorial design of the report, inclusive of preparing the layout and visual cadence, designing custom illustrations and infographics, and creating clean and simple data visualizations.

Designer Insights

The colors injected into the report and the various design elements are hues of green and blue, serving as a reminder of the focus of the project: creating green spaces for the community.

About the Project

NOVO Properties is a prominent property management company that oversees a portfolio of multifamily housing in core urban markets such as DC and Chicago.

We completed a brand refresh and website redesign for NOVO Properties that reflects their continuous improvements and competitive advantage in the real estate market. Transforming their past NOVO Properties logo from a simple ‘N’ to a pictogram that evokes the look of multifamily buildings, synonymous with their mission of building communities.

The company website was reinvented to showcase NOVO Properties expansive portfolio of properties. Navigation menus are maintained across the top of the page, ensuring a consistent style and optimizes the user experience by making it easy to navigate for information. The sleek landing page integrates links to key information (e.g., company values, portfolio) and ample white space gives the website a clean and sophisticated look.  For the color palette, hues of dark blue and gold are weaved throughout each page, which subtly reminds website visitors of NOVO Properties brand.

360° Strategy

About the Project

DC Green Bank’s purpose is to accelerate energy efficiency improvements and leverage private capital to deploy clean energy in the District. They are a game-changer that will help the DC area achieve its ambitious sustainability goals and make the city more resilient and a better place to live.

As their Marketing and Communications partner, FORMA by MOYA collaborated with DC Green Bank on many initiatives to generate brand awareness of the organization and their services.

Our goal was to tell a compelling and cohesive story using an omni-channel mix to generate reach of DC Green Bank’s mission and vision to the different demographics of DC residents.

Motion graphics videos, illustrations, traditional print outputs (e.g., annual reports, print ads), creating a brand design for their collateral materials and brand templates (e.g., presentations, social media) are some of the visual design touchpoints that were part of the branding and communications strategy. The result is a vibrant collection of elements with a strong marketing strategy at the core, that conveys the story and vision of DC Green Bank.

project recognitions

Our work did not go unnoticed, as FORMA was presented a gold award for integrated program design by the MUSE awards and the 2021 annual report received a platinum HERMES award.

About the Project

DC Combat Sports Commission is the regulator of boxing, wrestling, martial arts, and mixed martial arts within the District, with board members nominated by the Mayor. This committee also protects combat sports participants and consumers by ensuring license laws are met and upheld.

The Commission desired a brand refresh to have the branding more aligned with their vision of combat sports’ energetic and inclusive spirit. MOYA Creative fit the bill of bringing their passion for combat sports to life with an updated, contemporary brand identity.

The new, bold logo incorporated a pictogram belt with stars, an icon that is synonymous with different combat sports in the District. The logo takes the DC government’s brand colors of dark blue and red, with added light blue to accent the graphic.

Typography and the color palette were also updated for all corporate communication and marketing materials. The final result? A dynamic look and feel that speaks of movement, action, and the thrill of combat sports.

About the Project

DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) is a private non-profit organization that provides capital improvements, resources and research to enhance the downtown experience of the District for all.

As part of their public communications, the BID delivers an annual State of Downtown (SOD) report that provides an analysis of all sectors of the downtown DC economy, including the housing and commercial property markets; culture and entertainment; shopping; and dining.

We led the editorial design and creative direction of the SOD report for four years, creating custom illustrations and easy-to-read charts and data visualizations for this comprehensive report detailing the downtown economy. Full-page custom infographics activate and beautify the data for a highly visual experience.

A distinct editorial style was developed to make the report stand out: bright color blocks, and sleek fonts were integrated throughout the report, while maintaining a minimalist design. Different colors were used to contrast data points to help the reader visually navigate the information.

About the Project

The pandemic meant staying at home for many, but this did not limit expressing creativity. FORMA by MOYA’s client Jeff Tenenbaum is a lawyer by day but revived his bartending skills during lockdown. He had an idea for a coffee table-style book to share his 60 cocktail recipes in print form – this is where FORMA stepped in, shaping his idea, and bringing it to life.

The client envisioned the book to look like a work of art freshly printed out of the Roaring Twenties, so the design theme needed to embody art-deco elements.

MOYA integrated this theme fully, with art-deco framing of the photos and recipes for the inside of the book, and a luxury, matte hard cover finish with gold embossing of graphic elements on the outside.

The final product was published using a square size layout, with blue and gold as its main colors to enhance its premium look and feel.
