The Walkway Website
As part of Washington D.C.’s Vision Zero initiative aiming to eliminate all vehicle-caused fatalities of pedestrians and cyclists by 2024, MOYA created The Walkway in partnership with the District Department of Transportation, the Office of the Mayor, and Age-Friendly D.C. The Walkway was an interactive public art installation with a website exploring pedestrian safety and street harassment.
Visitors were encouraged to provide an online survey about their experience and to write their own stories of street harassment. Through this initiative, we gathered demographic information and data to facilitate the city’s research.
For The Walkway website we used WordPress, a popular open-source content management system (CMS). WordPress is one of the most-used platforms in the world. It supports all kinds of web content with functional plugin architecture and a template system. With WordPress, we can create open-source websites, mailing lists and forums, media galleries, blogs, and online stores. We encouraged online participation and feedback from the public on Instagram @wlkway and at www.wlkway.com.
