Unlocking Inclusion: Austin Special Olympics

Special Olympics commissioned ‘Unlocking Inclusion’ — a traveling exhibit to promote the organization’s Unified Champion Schools program at San Diego’s 2019 UCS conference and at the prestigious SXSW EDU in Austin, TX. The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program promotes sports and leadership opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. It’s designed to be woven into the fabric of participating schools, creating a socially inclusive environment that supports and engages all learners.

With ‘Unlocking Inclusion’, our visual design team invited viewers to experience the transformative power of diversity in schools. We chose interactive text, engaging textures, colorful LED lights, and audiovisual media to draw passersby into the comprehensive UCS campaign narrative. Open a locker to peek into the lives of real students with and without intellectual disabilities and learn how together they’re creating a Unified Generation. Listen to their stories, and experience how Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools provides students with sports activities, as well as opportunities to develop skills and friendships, gain competency, demonstrate dignity and contribute to the community.
