Moya Design Partners is a proud member of Legacy Community Partners’ project to revitalize the Franklin D Reeves Center in U St. MOYA’s architecture team is responsible of designing two components of this project: The Franklin D Reeves Center Office Building, and the Moxy Hotel.

The 101,000-sf Office Building is designed to be the new National Headquarters of the NAACP, and the team wanted to celebrate this landmark with a stunning design. The building sits at an angle and elevates the massing of the angled façade to allow for more public space and better transit. This combination creates a welcoming sensation and breaks the plane of the street. This is only intensified by the brilliantly decorated windows of this angled façade that will commemorate the history of Black Broadway.

The building incorporates green walls and a green roof, that increase the organic sensation of the whole development. The floor level will feature a café operated by DC Central Kitchen which will not only provide an excellent spot for food, but also training and job opportunities for locals.

Sitting right next to the new Franklin D Reeves Center, the Moxy hotel will bring 180 guestrooms and a local café operated by , that will feature live music performances. The Moxy is LCP’s nod to The Whitelaw Hotel that for decades served visitors to U Street and Black and Brown entertainers who performed in the area. The façade transitions subtly from the adjacent office building into a colorful and playful building that captures the freedom and promise that the Whitelaw Hotel represented and projects it into the future prosperity of the area. The thin black frame that surrounds the multi color glass wall, gives the building another dimension of sophistication and style.

Both buildings organically complement the two residential components of the development, designed by Soto Architects.
