Meridian Hill Design Concept
Meridian Hill Hall is a world-class, bespoke luxury apartment building proposal with all the amenities of a sought-after Sixteenth Street address. It stands at the crest of one of the best views of our nation’s capital. This multifamily design includes 175 units to serve the Howard University community and the vibrant neighborhood of Columbia Heights. The building’s Art Deco style plays a crucial role in the character of the area. With respect to these historic qualities, we limited exterior changes as much as possible. All new alterations complement and defer to the Art Deco elements of the existing building.

This neighborhood-oriented building is also sustainable. The site’s greatest asset is its U-shaped courtyard offering sweeping vistas of Meridian Hill Park. To connect the park’s landscape to the residential space, we designed a Zen-like terrace with cascading green planters that recall the park’s dramatic, 13-basin fountain. Gentle steps lead to a natural wood canopy where residents and guests encounter a terrace with native plants, outdoor seating, and a willow tree. Further outdoor gathering space includes a rooftop terrace with over 5,000 square feet. It offers lounges, private fireplaces, an outdoor bar, furniture, and planters that complement Meridian Hill Hall’s fantastic views of the city.
