Horace Mann Elementary School
Horace Mann Elementary School requested design services for a 17,000 sq. ft. update and a 33,000 sq. ft. addition. This included architecture and interiors to support their Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy. Our team worked closely with DGS, NCPS, CFA, HPO, and the school’s SIT committee members to achieve LEED Gold certification. Horace Mann Elementary School is a signature project for all parties involved.
At Horace Mann Elementary School, indoor and outdoor classrooms create a flexible and dynamic learning environment. A rooftop pavilion with photovoltaic cells promotes open-air learning and viable urban gardening. The vegetables grown here supplement cooking ingredients for the school’s cafeteria. The science gallery, art room, and multi-purpose rooms are adaptable and accessible spaces that open into outdoor gardens and instructional spaces. At Horace Mann Elementary School, we created a high-functioning and eco-friendly academic environment that benefits both staff and students.
