Bright Beginnings

MOYA worked with Bright Beginnings (BBI) on interiors for a new Early Childhood Education Center in Ward 8, Congress Heights. BBI’s new center answers a growing need for quality childcare for homeless youth. Washington, D.C. has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the nation. It also had one of the fastest increases in homelessness between 2009 and 2016. One survey estimated that the city has over 2,700 homeless children under the age of five.

BBI gives homeless kids a place to learn so their parents can work or get training to find good jobs. Most live in shelters or transitional housing and otherwise wouldn’t have access to safe and appropriate care. Our new interiors for BBI will help. New offices, classrooms, and workstations allow parents to access resources for education and jobs. We selected finishes and materials to create a kind, welcoming space to gather and find support. Soft colors provide a calm environment. Hallway floors are made of durable vinyl composition tile that sustains the wear of lots of young feet with a warm, wood-look finish. Millwork, furniture, and the reception desk also feature natural wood finishes. Re-District took care of the office furniture, and Community Playthings provided the classroom furniture. Together, our design creates a serene and comfortable space for BBI families to learn and grow.
