“When the seasons shift, even the subtle beginning, the scent of a promised change, I feel something stir inside me. Hopefulness? Gratitude? Openness? Whatever it is, it’s welcome.” —Kristin Armstrong

One of the most rewarding things about running a business is the personal relationships we form. No one achieves success without the help of other people. With the official launch of Moya Design Partners almost a year ago, I’m grateful to you all: employees, clients, and partners. I think of all the opportunities we’ve been able to give each other and the things we’ll achieve in the future. Together, we’ve turned challenges into successes and visions into reality. Our upcoming projects promise even more successes to come.
Entrepreneurship is full of opportunities to creatively solve problems. I love coming up with new ideas and testing them out in the design process, and I love working with so many talented, dedicated people who feel the same way I do about design for the social good. I’ve always loved all things design, architecture, and visual communications; how open, sleek and contemporary design can shape people and their energy, promote diversity and affordable living, increase quality of life, and above all build relationships.
In the design business, we have to listen to people, take into account their resources, and understand what a client really wants and needs. It takes time to get to that place of understanding. I’m proud of how the MOYA team has been able to integrate our firm into winning collaborations and creatively find new work. There are always fires, but I love it because that is life. I used to wonder, is there going to be a week or month when nothing pops? The answer is no, and I am fully embracing the journey.
MOYA’s products are highly visible. Our visual designs are on banners, storefronts, business interiors, and on corporate communications. Our interior, exterior, and mixed-use architectural products help urban communities thrive. From Audi Field to supportive housing for women at Diane’s House to our ongoing civic work for Eastern Market Metro Park, we see our impacts in action all over the city, and I’m so grateful for that opportunity. In our own way we’re shaping what DC is now. We’re helping to design a brand-new city — and beyond.
