The MOYA team conducted extensive research about BLM in order to educate themselves about the movementand the tragedies that triggered its formation. This knowledge of the subject matter allowed the team to approach this special design request with various creative directions and also be mindful of the BLM identity, and the language and slogans BLM uses.
MOYA developed bold, impactful silhouette illustrations that are easily visible to pedestrians and drivers. For the silhouettes, MOYA sought to represent not only the victims, but also family members and friends impacted by their loss, in an attempt to depict the extent of these tragedies and how they impact all Black identities. The names of the last 100 victims of state-sanctioned violence and anti-Black racism, along with the slogan, #SAYTHEIRNAMES are displayed on the opposite side of the banner.
