Designing the contemporary and elegant Spa at MGM Springfield was a highlight for our team.
“In a city known for firsts, MGM Springfield has added another to the list: the grand arrival of an unparalleled experience from dining and entertainment to nightlife and gaming.” Located at One MGM Way, Springfield, Massachusetts, the new MGM Springfield is filled with ‘wow’ moments and the vibrant energy of New England.
Moya Design Partners was part of the design team. We’re excited to debut the interiors for the contemporary and elegant Spa at MGM Springfield!
The integrated luxury resort covers three city blocks, featuring a 250-room boutique hotel, an 8,000-square-foot pool, terraced rooftop gardens, fine and casual dining, a seven-screen Regal luxury cinema, bowling lanes, and an outdoor marketplace with seasonal skating inspired by classic New England town squares.
The landmark redevelopment blends new construction with downtown Springfield’s most storied buildings. It celebrates the region’s history while igniting a modern-day renaissance in the heart of Massachusetts. “Locals and tourists can experience venues such as the First Spiritualist Church, Springfield Armory and Chandler Union Hotel — where Presidents Polk and Buchanan both stayed — in an entirely new way,” said a spokesperson for MGM Resorts International.
In addition to MOYA’s completion of the spa, Las Vegas’ Friedmutter Group is the architect of record for the master plan and exterior design. Los Angeles-based Avenue Interior Design designed the hotel’s lobby and headline restaurant. Bishop Pass designed the steakhouse and South End Market. Springfield’s own Specs Design Group designed the casino’s poker area, retail, and employee spaces, and Studio McCormack has crafted the Tap Sports Bar, arcade, and 10-lane bowling alley. MGM Resorts’ in-house team designed the boutique hotel’s 250 guestrooms and suites.
This all-star design team has triumphed! The MGM Springfield is a monumental entertainment destination with lots of local flair. Inside and out, you’ll find poetic and whimsical designs recalling works from regional authors Emily Dickinson and Dr. Seuss. Rising talent is showcased with hand-selected pieces by artists from Springfield, the greater Berkshires, New England, and beyond.
The renewed beauty of historic Springfield will be complemented by the MGM Springfield’s sophisticated food and drink menu. Inspired dining is headlined by award-winning Chef Michael Mina’s Cal Mare. The Chandler Steakhouse will offer fine selections. For casual fare, TAP Sports Bar will showcase the greatest in professional and college sporting events while serving up fan-favorite food and an extensive beer selection.
If that’s not enough, the South End Market will offer six unique venues. Hearth Grill, Bill’s Diner, Wicked Noodles, Wine Bar, Gelato & Espresso, and Jack’s Lobster Shack will bring Vegas-style cuisine right to your door.
On August 24, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the corner of State and Main Streets, MGM Resorts will treat Downtown Springfield to a parade featuring the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales along with local dignitaries and entertainment. Guests are invited to view the procession down Main Street to the resort’s main entrance.
At 11:00 doors will officially open, and guests can experience all the energy and excitement of New England’s first integrated luxury resort and entertainment destination!
The MGM Spa: warm, tranquil, and serene
The opportunity to design the contemporary and elegant Spa at MGM Springfield is one of the highlights for our team. Our design of the spa aligns with the MGM Resorts philosophy of immersive experiences: warm, tranquil and serene. Guests will indulge in classic luxury as they arrive through floor-to-ceiling glass doors to encounter 5,500 square feet of opulent amenities.
The sophisticated space raises the bar for superior spa services. Branded design elements and tasteful aesthetics define the spa’s reception area, seven treatment rooms, two relaxation areas, fitness room, as well as men’s and women’s steam rooms. Warm, serene blues and neutrals set the mind and body into total relaxation, while woven fabrics complement a central cascading rope installation inspired by New England’s signature maritime style.
Reclaimed wood and a blue barn door further enhance the northeastern aesthetic. Together with treatment rooms offering authentic textured wall coverings, this design evokes a modern, yet old-world ambience. Finishing touches complete the space with rustic hardware, custom furniture, original artwork with a combination of ropes and wood, and antique glass adornments. Blending old-world elegance with sleek, contemporary style, The Spa at MGM Springfield will pamper its guests with a fine, informal, and classic New England experience.
