Project Details
The Rumsey Aquatic Center in Capitol Hill is a groundbreaking 20,584 SF facility set on 1.17 acres, transforming recreation in Washington, DC. Designed by MOYA Design Partners, the $23.6 million project aims for LEED Silver and Energy Star Certification. Scheduled for completion in 2025, it features geothermal systems, green roofs, and solar thermal panels.
The design centers on a spiral pavilion, inspired by the movement of water, offering panoramic views and abundant natural light. The “Green Ribbon” concept extends landscaping from the nearby Eastern Market, creating a pedestrian-friendly connection and accessible outdoor spaces.
Inside, the center boasts accessible pools, senior wellness spaces, IT-equipped areas, and multipurpose rooms, catering to all age groups and abilities. The glass-enclosed pool, illuminated by a skylight, is the architectural highlight, combining functionality with visual appeal.
Rumsey Aquatic Center is not just a recreational facility but a community hub, supporting fitness, learning, and environmental sustainability. Its thoughtful integration of biophilic design and innovative technology positions it as a landmark project for DC, enriching the Capitol Hill neighborhood and beyond.
